1. INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Cocktail Hour Entertainment. We are an entertainment company that performs at hundreds of parties every year. The work atmosphere of our job is fun and exciting b/c we often work at once in a lifetime celebrations and some of these events are "over the top" events which can be unique and fun. Cocktail Hour Entertainment (CHE) is quickly growing to become one of the busiest game rental entertainment companies in south florida. We pride ourselves in delivering a wide variety of games to our customers. The staff that deliver and supervise these games are extremely important to us. Many people have found working for CHE to be a fun way to supplement their incomes. We believe CHE is a very special place to work and we welcome you to join our family. We look forward to a happy, productive, and successful relationship.
2. RULES AND REGULATIONS
You must be at the Warehouse or meeting place on time. If you are 15 minutes late,
you will be docked $25.00 off your paycheck. If you are a half hour or more late, you will be
required to drive to the job by yourself. We do not want to take anyone's pay, but being on time is extremely important.
Do not under any circumstances curse or be rude to anyone at a party.
Always smile and be friendly b/c you will be working with many of the same vendors on different parties. Take pride in your work. Do not talk negatively about the company on any job in front of clients, catering halls, or anyone! If you are found cursing in front of guests or slandering Cocktail Hour Entertainment, it will result in immediate termination.
Raises + Promotions = Responsibility & Productivity of Staff (NOT SENIORITY)
3. UNIFORM
You must have a plain black polo shirt with a collar (link), black pants/slacks (no jeans), and all black shoes or black sneakers. If you wear sneakers they must be all black. Never show up at an event or in front of guests with out being dressed properly. Always be properly groomed and wear deodorant! Cocktail Hour Entertainment does not use company shirts for most of our events b/c we are often hired by other companies and we can only promote their company if they hired us. For some events you may be asked to wear a referee shirt or a customized tee shirt, but unless asked to do so always wear a plain black polo shirt with a collar. If you work as a game attendant sometimes we will provide a referee shirt or a special T Shirt provided by the client for the event.

4. PHOTO I.D., PHONE & PHONE CHARGER
Always bring your drivers license or some type of legal photo ID b/c this is required at some locations by security or they will not let you on the property.
Always bring your phone with a fully charged battery and a phone charger. If you are working truck duty it is usually a full days work and your phone battery will not last the entire day. The office needs to be able to reach you AT ALL TIMES in case of problems or mistakes! If you forget your phone or charger and you will not be reachable let the office know immediately and get a back up number from someone else working with you.
5. BUSINESS CARDS
We encourage you to always have our business cards in your pocket to give to guests or other vendors if asked. This is an important way for our company to get more work which results in you getting more work. Business cards are always in the job folder. We encourage you to put a few business cards out on the game machines.
6. WHO HIRES US!
Half of our business comes from clients hiring us directly, and the other half of our business comes from event companies that hire us to represent their company. It is important to understand the difference. When a client or business hires us directly we can give out our business cards, but when we are subcontracted (hired) by another company then we are representing their company so we only give out their biz cards. For these events, never mention our company name or give out our business cards to their guests at their events. If these companies observe this they will stop using our company! These companies consist of party planners, decorators, caterers, and DJs.
Your job sheet will tell you if you are allowed to give out business cards or not. If you are not sure just ask.
7. EATING/ DRINKING/ SMOKING
There is absolutely No Smoking, No Eating, and No Drinking allowed in front of guests. However, with the consent of the client or company that hired us, we may be allowed to eat or drink, but never in front of guests. Remember we are working. This means you leave the room when you grab a soda or something to eat. There is also a correct time to eat. For example, we are usually hired to watch games for 1- 4 hours so if we are watching games for 1 hour we would wait until the end of the hour to grab something to eat before they put the food away. We never eat before the guests, only after. If you are watching games for 4 hours then you would wait till there was a slow time and guests were not using the games such as during a video presentation or speeches. Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited at all events. You are never to go to the bar and ask for alcohol, even if a guest or the boss who hires us offers it. It is unprofessional and will result in immediate termination! If asked, you must say, NO. If you start drinking and others observe this we can lose future jobs!
8. SCHEDULE
Schedules are prepared b/n tues evening and wed. You are responsible to call or text us every Tuesday after 6 pm to receive your schedule for the upcoming weekend. If you know in advance that you cannot work on a particular weekend let us know as early as possible. If we text you about your schedule and you cannot work please reply and let us know immediately, do not be one of those ppl that only reply to a text when you can work and ignore texts when you cannot.
Under no circumstance are you allowed to bring friends or family members to a party. You must get permission from Eric to do this.
9. ILLNESS/ EMERGENCY
If for any reason (illness or emergency) you cannot fulfill your employment after you received your schedule, you must call the office immediately. Do not wait until the weekend or Friday night to tell us you can't work on Saturday if you knew a few days before that you can't work. The moment you find out you can't work you must call immediately. If you feel sick and are not sure if you will be well enough to work tell us asap so we can prepare a backup rather then calling us 2 hours before your call time which makes it extremely difficult to find a replacement. Also, Try to get another staff to cover your schedule. Be responsible!
10. DOCKING PAY
While you are working you should not be; on your cell phone texting or talking, eating or drinking in front of guests, showing up late, moving games without the game being covered w/ a moving blanket or road case, securing/strapping games in the truck with out a protective cover, or carelessly handling equipment. If you are observed doing these things you may be given a warning or immediately docked pay. Repeated offenses may result in termination. Take care of the equipment b/c that is what pays our salaries.
11. JOB FOLDER: TRUCK DELIVERY SCHEDULE & JOB SHEET(S)
The Job Folder is a 3-ring binder that contains all the details you need to do your job. It may contain; truck key, game keys, pad lock & key, sunpass, job sheets, business cards, flash drive to load a logo in a Photo Booth, and other small items that fit in the folder. The Truck Delivery Schedule & Job sheets contain all the details for your work that day and are in the job folder. The Truck Delivery Schedule is a single 2-sided form that highlights the order and times for your deliveries and equipment to be loaded. Refer to sample truck delivery schedule below. You use the Truck Delivery schedule to keep track of the order and times of your deliveries. When you drive to each location you carefully read the Job Sheet for directions to that location and to check all the special instructions. Always read the entire job sheet 2x and check both sides of the job sheet to make sure you do not miss anything. Failure to read the job sheet carefully will cause mistakes. Everyone on your delivery team is equally responsible to read the job sheet so if one person forgets something then everyone is responsible!
12. FOLLOWING THE DELIVERY SCHEDULE:
It is important to leave the warehouse and arrive to your first delivery on time. Most schedules are designed to give you plenty of extra time during the day to take breaks and eat, BUT if you start off your work day arriving late, forgetting your cell phone charger, and then you slowly load the truck and you leave the warehouse 30 mins late then this is NOT the time to stop at the gas station b4 your 1st delivery to buy snacks or take a shit. You should know if you are late then your priority is to go straight to your first delivery and setup quickly and get back on schedule. It is your responsibility to eat before you come to work. Once you are ahead of schedule then you can make snack stops. You are responsible to eat on your own time before you show up to work, don't expect to stop if your behind schedule. If you are on time you will be ahead of schedule most of the time. Unless the truck is extremely low on gas you should always put gas in the truck after you make your deliveries, not before. The reason is b/c if you have an unexpected delay such as heavy traffic, equipment not working, or you need to make an emergency stop for a small part, the 20 minutes you spent getting gas could be the difference in being set up on time. Setting up the equipment as early as possible is always the #1 job priority!

14.a ARRIVING AT THE WAREHOUSE
Always arrive to the warehouse on time and park in the front. The office door will be locked and the alarm will be on. Use your key to unlock the door and then use your alarm code to turn the alarm off. If you have an alarm code never share it with anyone! If you do not have a key or alarm code call Eric 954-612-7431 and he will remotely disable the alarm before you open the door. Then he will give you a combination code to open the keybox so you can unlock the front door. Put this key in your pocket. If you lose this key you will be docked $175. which is our expense to change the lock, no exceptions. After you open the front door you must turn the alarm off if it was not disabled or the alarm will go off and the police will come.
Note: There is a 2nd keybox for the truck rental company, we do not use this. This key is only used by the truck rental company to retrieve their keys when they pick up their trucks. After everyone is inside unlock the back garage door. 1 staff will drive the truck from the front to the back and the 2nd staff will open the garage door when the truck pulls up.
DO NOT OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR UNTIL THE TRUCK PULLS UP.
After you load the truck, 1 person should lock the garage door and walk to the front while the 2nd person drives the truck to the front to meet the 1st person. Set the alarm back on (or call Eric to activate the alarm), Lock the front door, and put the key back in the keybox and slam it shut and scramble the code. Don't forget to do this! The alarm must always be on when you leave.
14.b LOADING THE TRUCK
LIFTGATE
NEVER be a hero and try to move equipment on the liftgate by yourself. 2 staff must always be present to operate the liftgate. One staff must always be on the ground to make sure the equipment does not roll off the liftgate and fall. The other staff should be in the truck pressing the button to raise the lift gate and receive the equipment and roll it into the truck. Once the liftgate is completely raised the staff in the truck rolls the equipment into the truck and the other staff climbs up to help after the equipment is safely off the edge of the liftgate. When pushing games on the liftgate always lift the games on to the liftgate or slowly roll them b/c there is usually a small lip and if you push the games to quickly you can break the wheels and then you may have to carry the game. When removing games from the liftgate go slowly and hold the bottom of the games to cushion the impact of the game dropping off the liftgate onto the ground.
PACKING THE TRUCK
All equipment must covered with blankets and then secured with Straps to secure the equipment from moving during transportation. Always make sure straps are tightened at 90 degree angles to prevent games from moving. Any part of a game that is wrapped with a strap should have a blanket or rubber moving pad b/n the game and the strap to prevent the friction of the strap from damaging the game when the truck is moving. NEVER OVER TIGHTEN THE EQUIPMENT!
NOTE: Equipment is most often damaged by not securing equipment properly or not covering the equipment with blankets. If you fail to do this you may be docked if equipment is damaged. Make sure equipment is tight enough to secure it from movement.
STRAP GAMES AT A 90' ANGLE TO PREVENT MOVEMENT:

IF BLANKETS ARE RIPPED OR GAMES NEED
EXTRA PROTECTION USE RUBBER STRAP GUARDS.

USE COMMON SENSE:
Below is an example of a bad job done strapping the game. If a game is tall make sure you tighten a strap around the upper part of the game because if you wrap it too low (as shown in above photo) it can tip over!
The foosball below shd have been strapped higher or they didnt tighten the strap enough and the strap was loose and fell down.
If you care about your job this is very preventable, but if you don't care it will show.

COMPARE THE 2 PHOTOS BELOW:
CORRECT WRONG

The cover above on the left protects the game from damage, buit the cover on the right wont protect the game from being damaged or scratched. Covers dont work if they dont cover the game!
HAND TRUCKS / DOLLIES:
All hand trucks and dollies must be secured to the wall with a strap just like a game.
PINBALL DOLLIES
Pinball dollies must be removed from below the game and strapped to the wall. Just turning the pinball dolly sideways off its wheels is not enough! It is 75 lbs and will slide into games everytime you hit the brakes or accelerate. Games have been damaged by unsecured pinball dollies! If you leave it under the game it will roll back n forth and damage the game.
VENDING DOLLIES
These heavy red vending dollies must be secured for the same reason as the pinball dollies
AIR HOCKEY DOLLIES
These dollies must be secured for the same reason as the pinball dollies
4-WHEEL WOOD MOVING DOLLIES
These light weight dollies will not damage games if they slide, but they must be flipped over so they dont roll!
15. ARRIVING AT THE LOCATION:
When you arrive at your location all staff should wait in the truck except one person that goes inside to find out where to unload the equipment. Always confirm where you are setting up before you unload the truck. If you unpack all the equipment from the truck w/o checking first you may have to put everything back in the truck! By checking first you can find the closest entrance and you wont waste time unloading the equipment if you are at the wrong entrance. Many locations do not allow you to enter through the main entrance and require us to unload at the loading dock or a specific doorway. This is our 1st impression to the caterer and other vendors working there. You must be polite when entering. There is to be no loud talking, foul language, or immature behavior at all. There may be other events going on when you arrive so be professional and quiet. You should always be dressed when you enter the location.
16. MOVING EQUIPMENT
When moving equipment make sure all equipment is covered under moving blankets or road cases until it is moved to the location where it will be set up for the party. Again, games must remain protected until you are finished moving them, then remove the covers. Do not move games without protection! After you set the games up take all the moving blankets and road cases back to the truck to prevent other vendors from taking them. When we are picking up the games you must cover the games back up before you wheel them back to the truck. Moving games w/o the covers defeats the whole purpose of protecting them.
If a Caterer or Banquet Manager asks you to unload through a door that is a little tougher than expected, understand that they have their reasons. In most cases, CHE isn't the only company moving equipment in and out of the halls. Do not under any circumstance give a caterer a hard time. We are visitors in their home. CHE will be visiting these
establishments many times. We want to have a good relationship with these establishments so we can look forward to visiting them again. The caterer can either recommend us to customers or tell them not to use us. The catering staff are also the people that feed us so remember to be nice.
When moving equipment in and out, use your head wisely. Think about what your doing. Don't carry the equipment carelessly (example, dragging a piece of heavy equipment across a beautiful dance resulting in a large scratch not only in the floor, but our bank account.
A lot of the equipment CHE uses is custom made and very expensive. Anyone observed mishandling equipment will be docked pay or possibly terminated. Do not drag equipment or carry equipment in an unsafe manner. We don't want to see anyone get hurt or try to be a hero. When moving equipment pretend it is made of glass, not stone.
Treat the equipment like you own it!
Most Arcade machines have computers and other sensitive electronics inside them. They are on wheels, but should always be moved slowly by 2 staff (1 in front of machine and 1 behind), but If 1 person is going to move a machine alone he must always stand in front of the machine and pull it b/c if you stand behind the machine and push it you can hit a bump in the street or an extension cord and the game could stop rolling and fall forward and you'll have no way of stopping the game from falling, but if your in front pulling it then you can catch it b/c the machine will fall into you. Always go slow and watch for bumps. When moving equipment over any bumps always support the weight of the machine by holding the machines handles or from the bottom to minimize the impact of the bumps b/c vibration can damage the games electronic components. Try to avoid pavers and bricks b/c these surfaces cause the machines to vibrate excessively when rolling over them. This can cause parts inside the machine to come loose or even break. If you have to go over pavers or other rough surfaces GO VERY SLOW.
17. SETTING UP EQUIPMENT
When it is time to set up games or break them down this is not the time to go to the bathroom or be on a personal call, this is unfair to the other staff. No one should be on the phone during set up and strike unless it is work related.
Most arcade games have their power cord (and any needed tools/hardware) in the coin box in the front of the arcade machine. You will need a 631 arcade key to open the coin box. Most arcade games can be opened with the same key.
Always try to position games so the side of the game with the power cord is closest to the wall so there is less distance to run the extension cord and small children cannot reach the power cord. Tape down all cords so guests do not trip over them. Always leave at least 6" b/n the game and the wall b/c when kids play the games the machines can move and we do not want to damage the wall behind the games. If the games have locking wheels always lock them before you leave. Make sure you set up all games and turn them on and test them before you leave. For example, you can power on a pinball machine or air hockey, but if you dont start a game then you dont know if the game works. Certain games require certain tools/hardware to set them up and break them down. These tools/hardware should always be found and returned to the coin box of that machine so they are accessible to the delivery staff and game attendants.
At the end of a party make sure you wrap up all the extension cords and double check to make sure you don't forget any extension cords before you leave.
PROBLEMS WITH EQUIPMENT
If you ever damage a piece of equipment, notice damage, or find something is missing (ex. no ping pong balls for the ping pong table) it is your responsibility to let the office know immediately so the problem can be fixed before the next weekend otherwise we will have the same problem the next time it is used. When you notice damage, IMMEDIATELY take a photo and text it to 954-612-7431 or sales@cocktailhourentertainment.com. Failure to report damaged equipment will result in docked pay! If you are plugging in anything electronic (Pinball machine, Arcade game, Photo Booth, etc…) and the outlet you are plugged into keeps losing power (circuit breaker trips) stop plugging into that same outlet and find a new circuit to plug into b/c continually losing power can seriously damage equipment and cause malfunction.
When turning any game off ALWAYS turn the power switch off first and wait 5 seconds then you can unplug the machine. Never unplug equipment without turning it off first! Again, Never unplug equipment without turning it off first! In case you are not paying attention, NEVER unplug equipment without turning it off first!
19. STRIKING EQUIPMENT
Always remember to turn the power switch off before you unplug the extension cords from the walls for games. When you unplug a game from an extension cord that extension cord is ours as well…take it. Extension cords cost money and leaving them behind costs us money and it will cost you money if you continually forget to take them. If in doubt, take the extension cord. We would rather have a few extra cords then a few less.
When removing Duct tape you should always stand on the cord as you pull the tape off. Failure to do this often results in duct tape getting stuck around the cord. If you don't know how to do this…ask! Wrap extension cords up neatly before placing them in the extension cord road case.
Make sure the power cord for each electronic games is packed with that game. (ex. Arcade machines have a coin box -open the coin door and put the cord in the coin box and lock the door, this ensures we always have the correct cords for the correct games.
Always remember certain games require certain tools/hardware to set them up and break them down. These tools, along with the extension cords, should always be stored in the coin box in that arcade game.
Before you leave ALWAYS do a dummy check and walk the room and at each location where our equipment was set up to make sure you didn't forget any extension cords, tools, game accessories, casino chips, foosballs, air hockey pucks, basketball, footballs, etc… before you leave.
20. UNLOADING AT THE WAREHOUSE
1st go the the front of the building and unlock the front door and turn off the alarm. If you do not have a code then call eric and he will remotely disable it for you. Always back the truck up to the garage door to unload. Never leave the garage door opened unless staff is there! The garage door should only be opened as the truck pulls up. When you are finished unloading you will park the truck on our property directly in front or behind the warehouse. You must throw away all your trash out of the truck and make sure you remove any personable belongings such as sunlgasses. Always double check and make sure you do not forget to return the job sheet, padlock & key, and sunpass to the basket in the warehouse by the backdoor. Make sure the warehouse back door is locked (both locks), and the security bar is on the back door fr extra security. Make sure both padlocks are locked on the garage door. Then go around to the front of the warehouse and put the keys in the drop box by the front door. The drop box is located on the ground next to the front door.
Always put games back in the same place you found them, Example, pinball machines go in teh front office. Remember; If you always put things back in the same place you can always find them in the future.
21. INTERACTING WITH GUESTS
Look like an authority figure. Don't be shy to speak to guests or other vendors if there is a problem. Get to know the family or party planner that hired us. We want them to feel comfortable around us b/c we are all working together. Be friendly and have fun with the guests playing the games, but never play a game if it stops other guests from playing.
If any guests or kids are observed putting food or drinks on a game immediately remove the drinks/food from the game and tell them this is not allowed. If a guest is abusing the equipment or causing a problem and not listening, immediately turn the game off if they are going to break something. Go to the parent or company that hired us and tell them you are having a problem and ask them how they want to handle it b/c you cannot allow them to break the equipment. The parent or boss needs to understand they hired us to rent our equipment but that doe not give their guests the right to damage or break our equipment during the rental. They have to take care of the problem child or guest or we will turn the games off and remove them.
22. COCKTAIL HOUR
Cocktail hour is the first hour of the party, and it's usually in a separate room from the main party. There is usually no dancing so guests rely more on our games for entertainment. This is usually the busiest time for us. When cocktail hour starts, all games and the game attendant should be ready when the guests enter the room.
23. GAME ATTENDANT
A Game Attendants job is observe the guests and assist them with the games and protect the equipment from abusive behavior, and not allow any liquids or drinks on the games. Our goal is to earn their respect, but also to protect our equipment from abuse. The game Attendant will have extra balls, mallets, paddles or any other extras in case guests lose them and they need to be replaced. Always make sure kids take turns. Always walk around all the games we are providing to create a presence. Do not stand in the corner with your hands in your pocket, or play with your phone sending text messages. If you do this it means you are not doing your job and the party planners, guests, and other companies usually complain to us so it does get back to us.
24. CASINO DEALERS
When we set up casino tables the casino dealers we hire are scheduled to arrive 15 minutes prior to start time. Casino tables should be set up and the casino chip case should either be left hidden under the tables or left under the casino table cover (if you were instructed to leave it on when you finish setting up).
After the casino dealers are finished working they are supposed to pack up the chips, cards, dice and put them back in the casino chip case and hide it under the table or casino take cover before they leave. Whenever you pick up casino tables always look for the casino chips case hat goes with each table. There will be 1 casino chip case for each table, except for roulette which has 2 casino chip cases. The roulette chips are different then the other chips b/c there are no money values printed on roulette chips ($1, $5, $20, $50, $100, $500). Roulette chips are just colored and each player gets there own set of colored chips. Ex. Player 1 has blue chips, player 2 has red chips, etc….
25. GRAFFITI ARTSTS
We sometimes deliver a box of hats or tee shirts for a graffiti artist to paint guests name on them as a take home. These artists usually bring an assistant to help them stay organized. If you deliver a box of hats or shirts then at the end of the party you will take back the leftover box(es) b/c we almost always provide more hats/shirts then are needed.
26. WAX HANDS, TATTOO ATISTS, CARICATURIST, CARNIVAL ATTENDANT, EYELASHES, HAIR EXTENSIONS
We provide many services like this and many of these staff are also working for us so be respectful and understand they are your co-workers.
27. TIPS/ GRATUITIES
If you work as a game attendant there is a chance you will receive a tip/gratuity. This is always nice, but do not ever expect it. Some guests will tip us no matter what, some guests will not tip us no matter what, and some people will tip you only if they think you earned it…by doing a great job!
28. EXPERIENCE
This guide was designed to help you learn as much as possible before you work your first party. A lot of the information in this form will become more clear with experience, and every party you will learn something new. I recommend after a couple months reading this training guide again and I guarantee you will pick things up the 2nd reading that you didn't pick up the first time. If you ever have questions do not hesitate to ask us because we want you be successful at your job!
WELCOME TO COCKTAIL HOUR ENTERTAINMENT!

32. PHOTOGRAPHERS
During every party, there will be photographers and videographers trying to capture every exciting moment that occurs. Our job is to make those moments happen. We have a tendency to not pay attention to them and get in their way. Try to be courteous and help the photographers out in this situation. Freeze the people by the games for a great photo, tell the kids to wave at the camera, help put them in place, organize photo shots. We need to work together with them, it gives us respect. If they get some great shots, ask for their biz card and leave it in the job folder.
